Adding a Yahoo! Calendar

An easy way to create an interactive calendar would be to use a Yahoo! Calendar. It's as simple as setting up a new Yahoo! Account that you don't even have to use for email! The only drawback is that you will have one more place to log in to create the calendar. I think it's worth it, though, because the Yahoo! Calendar provides you with many features that you couldn't get just by creating a table-style calendar on your own.

Check out the look of the calendar by visiting the one I created ... It only has one event on it, but you'll get the idea.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Go to mail.yahoo.com and click SIGN UP! (Remember, you do NOT have to use this email EVER... you are simply signing up for the purpose of using the calendar feature.)

Use your name, a name related to your class, or anything that the students will remember.

You then have to click the TURN SHARING ON and allow EVERYONE to view events. You can then enter events such as tests, quizzes, homework assignments, meetings, etc onto the calendar. You can even type notes into the NOTES box.

When you're back in your admin area of My Teacher Sites, create a Calendar Button or Lesson Plans Button. The create a page that has a link to the Yahoo! Calendar. The link will be listed below your calendar when you're on the Yahoo! Calendar.

Your students will then be able to view your calendar by day, week, month, or year. They can even print the calendar. When they click an event, it will show them the notes that you typed in.

If you want to get really clever, you can add their emails to your calendar and whenever you select to ALERT By EMAIL for an event, they will receive an email prior to the event as a reminder.

It's a cool and easy way to have your class events placed on a calendar.
